Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 4 slices Swiss or American cheese
- 1 large sweet onion, sliced
- 4 slices rye bread
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp butter and sauté sliced onions until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
- Shape ground beef into two patties (½ inch thick), seasoning both sides with salt and pepper.
- In another skillet over medium-high heat, cook patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned; add cheese during the last minute to melt.
- Spread remaining butter on one side of each slice of rye bread, then toast butter-side down until golden brown.
- Assemble by layering one patty with melted cheese and caramelized onions between two slices of toasted bread.
- Grill assembled sandwiches on both sides until crispy and heated through.
