Ingredients

  • 6 cups mixed apples (Fuji and Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel, core, and chop apples into small chunks.
  2. In a large pot, combine chopped apples and water over medium heat. Cook for about 15 minutes until softened, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and lemon juice; stir well and simmer for another 30 minutes.
  4. Blend the mixture using an immersion blender until smooth (or leave some chunks if desired).
  5. Return the pot to heat and cook down for an additional 45 minutes until thickened.
  6. Pour hot apple butter into sterilized jars, seal tightly, and store in the fridge or process in a water bath.
