- 6 cups mixed apples (Fuji and Granny Smith)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Wash, peel, core, and chop apples into small chunks.
- In a large pot, combine chopped apples and water over medium heat. Cook for about 15 minutes until softened, stirring occasionally.
- Add sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and lemon juice; stir well and simmer for another 30 minutes.
- Blend the mixture using an immersion blender until smooth (or leave some chunks if desired).
- Return the pot to heat and cook down for an additional 45 minutes until thickened.
- Pour hot apple butter into sterilized jars, seal tightly, and store in the fridge or process in a water bath.
